Mobility Walking Aids

Mobility Walking Aids

There are several types of mobility walking aids sold on the market today. Choosing between them can be a matter of comfort, budget, or personal disability. It's important to determine mobility level before you begin shopping for a mobility aid. Mobility can generally be broken down into one of three different levels.

A person with a high level of mobility is still in good health and remains active, but is in need of slight assistance when walking. Medium mobility would mean that you have trouble walking up or down stairs. It may also mean you cannot walk for long periods of time without trouble. A low mobility patient has trouble transitioning from a seated to a standing position. They may also have trouble walking for more than a minute at a time.

A traditional cane or rollator is an ideal walking aid for a person who still has a high level of mobility. Mobility walking aids for a person with medium mobility include rolling walkers with 2 or 4 wheels, a quad cane, or a traditional walker. Finally, a person with low mobility may need a standard walker, a cane with a quad base, or a walker that can transition to a wheelchair.
